The tastiest and most beautiful pumpkins in the world

The 27th Regional Pumpkin Fair of Piozzo kicks off

Pro Loco di Piozzo

This year, after two years of interruption due to the pandemic, the 27th edition of the event entirely dedicated to pumpkins and their derivatives will also be held in Piozzo. The small town in the province of Cuneo, famous worldwide for its beer, will once again be tinged with orange and autumn shades from September 30 to October 2 with the Regional Pumpkin Fair.

The classic events and products that have always characterized the event will not be missing, with more than 600 varieties of pumpkin selected and collected in a unique technical-scientific exhibition in Italy, set up in the Albarosa belvedere, curated by some experts and open to visitors free of charge. Also present this year is the “Zucca Piozzo®”, a delicious culinary product made in Piozzo, patented seven years ago, mainly used for preparing risotto.

All the pumpkins are grown in Piozzo but the seeds come from every corner of the world, they will be displayed on farm wagons and can be purchased at the hundreds of stands set up with pumpkin-derived products, both food and non-food. There will also be giant pumpkins, which in 2016 exceeded 537 kg.

“As every year, pumpkin delicacies cannot be missed, – explains the organization – bomboloni, muffins, Guido Gobino artisanal chocolates candied with pumpkin, risotto and minestrone, all based on the prized Piozzo vegetable. The dishes, both sweet and savory, can then be cooked at home by every visitor thanks to the recipes illustrated in the cookbook dedicated to the Piozzo pumpkin.”

New for 2022 is the street food curated by the All4U Cultural Association, with trucks and stands also offering traditional regional pumpkin-themed dishes from Friday evening to Sunday evening in the beautiful setting of Albarosa. Another classic event will be with the Sound Artisan Danilo Raimondo, builder of instruments and sound objects with dried pumpkins. An unmissable presence given the great success of previous editions, the taste workshop with pumpkin tasting will take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Workshops for schools and children will also continue in 2022, taking place on the morning of Saturday, October 1, with a guided tour of the fair. As in previous editions, there will also be some competitions such as the photography contest, “Put the photo in the pumpkin” – including the Instagram section where photos can be posted with the hashtag #fieradellazucca – and the “Pumpkin Sweets” contest, which will award the best prepared dessert. The full contest rules can be found on the website www.prolocopiozzo.it.

“For years we have kept the pumpkin at the center of attention, steering clear of any unrelated products – continues the organizing committee – and this recognition rewards our hard work, which we carry out every year for free and with passion, always trying to improve the quality of the event, for example by paying particular attention to gastronomy with the new street food offering.”

Special attention is also paid to safety, as always aimed at ensuring a pleasant visit for the thousands of visitors who will come to Piozzo, a small town at the gates of the Langhe located between Mondovì and Alba, easily accessible via the A6 motorway, Turin-Savona, with exit at Carrù.
